Jane Nason began studying Aikido in Japan in 1982 under Yasuo Kobayashi Shihan and Kazuo Igarashi Shihan. She received her shodan (1st degree black belt) from Kobayashi Shihan in 1988. 

In 1989, Jane returned to the U.S. and established the Ft. Wayne Aikido Club in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Soon thereafter, she affiliated with Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, continuing her training under the guidance of Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan. She was promoted to nidan by Saotome Shihan in 1993.

Jane relocated to California in 1996, and has trained at Aikido West under Frank Doran Shihan since then. She received the rank of 6th dan in 2020.
