Alex Vanderburgh began training in Okinawan karate-do in 1970, but upon learning of Aikido in 1979 he switched. In 1982 he moved to San Franciso and joined Aikido of San Francisco to train with Frank Doran Sensei, Robert Nadeau sensei, and Bill Witt Sensei. In 1991 he joined Aikido West to train with Frank Doran Sensei. 

Alex has taught children and adults since 1988 and has assisted with the Aikido West kids program since 1999. 

He attained 1st degree black belt in Kenpo Karate in 1992, and Okinawan Kobudo in 1993. He was awarded the rank of 6th degree black belt in Aikido in 2022.

Alex has dedicated his practice to teaching Aikido to children. (For more visit www.martialplay.com)
